BookTrust X Penguin Campaign

Opportunity

Design four book covers to be apart of a larger social media campaign helping to raise money and awareness for the non-profit group Booktrust.

Solution

I decided to create a social media campaign centered around raising money for the non-profit organization, Booktrust. Booktrust is an organization that allows underprivileged children to choose the books they read in order to help them get excited about reading and learning. Booktrust partnered with Penguin Books to create a campaign that promotes four classic children’s books, aimed at business professionals. The stories we read as children help us become the adults we are today. Employees at large companies across the United States are urged to participate in an Instagram Read-a-thon where they purchase a book from the series and read it via social media. They can tag and share with their co-workers, friends and family members. The money made off the sales of the books is the doubled by the company of the employees and the companies who are donating the most money get to be placed on the leader board. The classic stories chosen for this campaign are, The Secret Garden, Peter Pan, Alice In Wonderland, and James and the Giant Peach. Each story features a whimsical and adventurous child who has had to overcome some sort of obstacle in their life, but end up successful and happy in the end. Our story is important, but so are the stories of all the children across the United States without access to learning materials, such as books.

“We empower kids from low-income communities to choose and buy their own books, all through the school year. And our focus on book choice and ownership is no accident. Studies show that children are much more likely to read books that they choose, and having books at home brings proven benefits. We’re all about helping kids build home libraries full of books they want to read, and helping teachers use those books in the classroom to build healthy habits of reading and learning.”
